Another reason to like Leica. The article goes into some depth about things Ernst Leitz did during the War to get Jews out of Germany. Heroic, and he never spoke of it.

Interestingly I was just reading in one of my Leica books of the risks he took introducing the Leica in the twenties. The economy was of course very rocky, high unemployment, and concern that it was not a good time to bring a new product to market. He did, and it was a success. I was wondering at that time if it would have mattered had more German firms taken similar risks.

Of course the risks he ran during the war were far greater, and more personal.
